1996-97 Richard P. Feynman Prize for Excellence in Teaching

For more than 40 years, Dr. Middlebrook taught his students a way of thinking, not just a body of knowledge. In his own words, the solution to a problem has to be expressed in Illuminating he was, as he demonstrated to thousands of delighted students how to simplify complex subjects and how to marry theory and experiment. He also taught them a lesson in scientific modesty, as he constantly adopted the best solutions generated by his students. Years after graduating from Caltech, some of the best circuit designers in the world maintain a passionate gratitude towards their mentor, Dr. R. David Middlebrook. The committee is very pleased to honor this distinguished educator with the 1996-97 Richard P. Feynman Teaching Award.
